Adidas debuted this inaugural geometric pattern incorporating colour gradients, which served as the basis for the celebrated 1988 "Ipswich" template. Portugal, Bulgaria and Iraq sported the "waves" motif during the 1986 World Cup, while Sweden, Bayer Leverkusen and Greece subsequently received kits featuring this same design.
