PEC Zwolle 2024-25 Liberation Kit
On 14 April 1945, Zwolle was liberated by the Canadian army. Originally, the plan was to shell the city, which would have caused large damage to Zwolle. Two soldiers were sent into Zwolle to scout the German force, Private Major and Corporal Arsenault. Arsenault was killed early on, but Major progressed into the city. What transpired in the city is unclear, but the story goes that Major launched a solo attack on the Germans, who mistook him for a larger invading force and fled. The next day, the Canadian army was able to liberate the city without firing a shot. For his actions, Major received the Distinguished Conduct Medal. 80 years after the liberation, PEC Zwolle has released a special kit for the match against FC Twente. The colours of this kit are those of the Distinguished Conduct Medal, to honour the city's liberator, Leo Major. (description by KeesKast)
