Main sponsor HanseMerkur and sleeve sponsor Popp made this initiative possible by giving up their advertising space. "UNS UWE", Seeler's common nickname, is printed on the front of the kit, while his famous number "9" takes up the left sleeve. All player numbers also have a nine at the bottom instead of the HSV logo. The warm-up for the match was also conducted in special black shirts with Uwe Seeler tributes.
