What appears to be a prototype of what later became the most recognized jersey was worn during the friendly matches prior to the start of the qualifiers, lacking the Reebok design on the front but featuring the same number designs on the front and back. It was used in friendlies against Bolivia, Peru, Mexico, Australia, and Bolivia again.
